volunteers start here

Your time is your most precious commodity; where and how you invest it reflects your core beliefs.  House of Bread is honored to be a recipient of your time.

Contact HOB Volunteer Coordinator Jordan Hertz at houseofbreadroanoke@gmail.com to engage in any of these volunteer opportunities.

Bread and Relationship Formation

Partner with a student in our program through the bread baking process. No prior baking experienced required. You and a student will develop and or fine-tune baking skills during this 3.5 hour time commitment on either a Wednesday morning or Thursday afternoon over a 5-week period.

Mentoring:  Resume and Job Skill Building

Mentor one of our students by pledging to meet with them 2-3 (or more if the Spirit moves you) times throughout the 6-week program.  Set your own volunteer hours to work with students on job search and interview skills through a supportive and encouraging relationship.

Bread Sales

Partner with students to sell our bread at bread stands and farmers’ markets throughout the Roanoke Valley and help us make the House of Bread brand a powerful tool for raising awareness of the challenges and needs faced by women seeking a new start within our community.  Volunteers are needed on Wednesday afternoons and Friday mornings for 2-3 hour shifts.

Mock Interviews

Serve as a mock interviewer during our Job Interview Training Clinic at the end of each 6-week program to prepare our students for the questions they will face from potential employers as they re-enter the working world.
