Volunteers start here

Your time is your most precious commodity; where and how you invest it reflects your core beliefs.  House of Bread is honored to be a recipient of your time.

Kitchen volunteers

Bake shoulder to shoulder with our students while sharing stories and getting to know them. No prior baking experienced required; we teach everyone as we bake. While our schedule changes from season to season, we are currently baking on Monday and Wednesday mornings.

Mentoring

Mentor one of our students by meeting weekly throughout the 8-week program.  Help a student work toward her individual goals, such as finding a job or housing or obtaining an ID, through a supportive and encouraging relationship. No specific skills are required other than a willingness to get to know one of our students. House of Bread will provide resources and training as needed. Hours are flexible and outside of class.

Student support

Attend class regularly and build a relationship with students as you work and learn together in the classroom and kitchen. Class takes place on Monday and Wednesday mornings for 4-5 weeks per session.

 Sell Bread

Work alongside students selling bread at a farmers market or pop-up stand. This usually takes place on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons or evenings and lasts about 2 hours.

TRANSPORTATION

Volunteers provide transportation for students who do not have access to a car or the bus line. This is needed early in the morning on our baking/classroom days as well as other times for special events.

Mock InterviewERS

Serve as a mock interviewer during our Job Interview Training Clinic to prepare our students for the questions they will face from potential employers as they re-enter the working world.
